Dear parents and carers,

I would like to begin with heartfelt wishes for a better year than last year for us all; however, my first message to you is not the one I would wish to give.

After much consultation and discussion, we have had to take the decision to move to full-time on-line learning for most of our pupils for the next two weeks at least. The situation will be reviewed continuously, and we will make all decisions with the best interests of every school member at heart; I understand this will cause difficulties for some, but safety and wellbeing must be our prime consideration.

In order to ensure that learning still takes place, we will utilise Google Classrooms to provide daily lessons in English, maths and topic work. All children already have log in details and have experience of how to access it. Tomorrow, Tuesday 5th January, class teachers will be online at 9:30am to greet their class and explain what is happening. The activities for the day will be available and there will be enough support given for the children to be able to do these without adult intervention. Hopefully, this will not impact on you too much although the children may need a little help initially uploading work if it is asked for.

Individually class teachers will set up whole class or group sessions to meet on Google Meet each day so that they can still give as much individual input as possible. If you have more than one child and they are unable to log in at the same time, please make every effort for both of them to access the work set for them on Google Classrooms. If you have difficulties accessing the online work, paper copies of the work can be made available.

School will still be open for the children of key workers and vulnerable children. If you feel that your child falls into either of these categories, please get in touch with us as soon as possible so that we can set the staffing for the groups up. As in the summer, these children will not necessarily have their usual teacher.

We are currently negotiating how we can supply school lunches and we will let you know how this will work as soon as we have the details.

As ever, I am sure we will work together to make the best of this very difficult situation. You have been incredible every step of the way so far so I am sure we will come through this too. Take care of each other and stay safe.

Yours sincerely,

Nicholas Anderson           Beverley McCallion
