The Commonwealth Games are being held in Birmingham this summer. It is going to be a glorious competition . As part of the run up, The Queen’s Baton Relay is taking place, where for 29 days the baton is carried the length and breadth of Britain. From around 4pm tomorrow, Gateshead will is lucky enough to have the baton passing through and being handed over, travelling from The Angel of The North to Saltwell Park and then down onto the Quayside. It will be quite a spectacle and an historical event right on our doorsteps. There are activities after school in both Saltwell Park and then down on The Quayside.
This is the kind of thing that can inspire our children to think about their own futures and what they could go on to be part of, and to help them to see what the place they live in has for them. If it were in school time, we would have loved to take the children a long, but, as it isn’t, we hope that you might be free on Friday evening and could take the children down to the park or the quayside to be a small part of The Commonwealth Games. Sport is such a fabulous outlet – wouldn’t it be great to see your child carrying a baton like this one day or representing their country in their chosen sport or working in the world of sport ? It’s not an impossible dream!
A lovely start to a sunny weekend.

Hopefully, some of you are able to go along. If you do, have fun. We might see you there!
