Nature, Numbers & Non-fiction

Save our Hedgehogs!

In Literacy, this half term, we have been writing a persuasive leaflet to inform every one of the dangers that hedgehogs face.  In order for our leaflets to be effective, we looked at the layout of non-fiction texts and the importance that headings and subheadings play in the organisation of information. We have been learning about the different writers’ tools that we can use to make our work persuasive and have been ‘Brave Bears’ as we have informed Class 6 about these endangered creatures.

Class 3 - Spr 1 - 2026

Times Table Rock stars!

This term, in maths, we have been learning how to multiply two digit numbers by a one digit number, by making links to x10 bigger facts. We have also been finding links between multiplication and division facts to help us create fact families. In class, we have enjoyed learning about different units of measure and have applied new vocabulary to solve problems. We have been learning to record measures by reading scales that go up in increments of 1,2 5 and 10.

Fantastic Flowers!

We have had a great science filled half term. Our favourite activity this half term was using clay to create models of flowers. We had to work with a partner, making sure we both had a different job and that we helped each other.  We are now able to identify the different parts of a flower and can explain their purpose. We even created some amazing videos that use actions to explain the parts of the flower and its purpose and an action too.

Within Computing, we have used the ‘stop motion’ app, to create an animated video explaining how water is transported through a flower.

Hedgehog hunters!

The Gosforth Nature Reserve was kind enough to invite the Year 3 children to take part in many fantastic activities, from hunting for minibeasts and creating hedgehogs from clay to bird spotting. While we were there, the children were extremely lucky to see not one but three deer. Even though they were excited, the children managed to stay very quiet so as not to frighten them away.
