SATS

Year 6 have approached their SATs preparations with a fantastic attitude, showing calm focus and great determination throughout. We were especially proud of how composed and confident everyone felt, ready to show what they know.

Our SATs breakfast was a real highlight, giving everyone a chance to relax, chat with friends and start the day on a positive note. It created a warm and supportive atmosphere that set us up perfectly for the day ahead.

Following this, our class reward to Saji’s was an incredible experience. It will remain a special memory for our pupils as they move on to new schools and on to bigger and better things.

We must give a very big and special thanks to Saji’s for their incredibly generous private dining experience and the anonymous benefactor who helped us to make it happen this year!

Guess Who?

Year 6 are absolutely loving our Guess Who? art project. We have been building our confidence by learning how to carefully sketch the features of a face and draw them in accurate proportion.

Using mirrors, we then brought our skills to life by creating detailed self-portraits, looking closely at our own features. To make our artwork even more realistic, we explored shading techniques, using three layers to add depth and detail.

After half term, our finished portraits will be displayed in a special gallery for the whole school to enjoy. Visitors will be invited to take a closer look and try to guess who each portrait belongs to! It has been a fun, creative project where we have really developed our artistic skills.

Developing Teamwork

After SATs, Year 6 have been focusing on building their teamwork skills and developing their speaking, listening and discussion abilities. These important skills will support our pupils as they prepare for their transition to Year 7.

We kicked off our learning with a fun and challenging activity, where we had to communicate clearly to help our partner draw a complex picture, which was kept hidden from their view. This meant giving precise, descriptive instructions so that our partner could accurately recreate the image.

To make it even more exciting, we turned the activity into a relay race, adding a competitive edge! It was fantastic to see everyone working together, thinking carefully about their language and supporting one another to succeed. A brilliant start to an important unit!

Skateboarding

Year 6 have had a fantastic time during our skateboarding lessons, showing great enthusiasm and determination. Working with a partner, we supported one another to confidently travel across the yard on the board, building trust and teamwork along the way.

As our confidence grew, we developed our early skateboarding skills, learning techniques such as the pizza to help us change direction and the pancake to help us jump safely onto the board.

It was wonderful to see everyone challenge themselves, showing bravery, resilience and genuine care for their teammates. The encouragement and support across the class made this a really positive and enjoyable experience for all!

Welcome to the Tipi!

As a special reward following SATs, Year 6 were invited to the tipi to take part in a meaningful activity, reflecting on some of their most precious memories from their time at Bede. It was a lovely opportunity to pause, appreciate how far we have come and share special moments together.

We were also visited by the local author, Steph Bellwood, who talked to us about the inspiration for her children’s historical fiction books, the Wrens, from wartime Britain. Not only was it incredibly interesting to here of the inspirational roles these women played during the war, but it was also fantastic to discover a new mystery book series.

To make these experiences even more memorable, the reading company, who our school works closely with, kindly gifted a Guinness World Records book to every child. We had a fantastic time exploring them, sharing our favourite facts and discovering some wonderfully weird and amazing world records!
