Settling in with Spirals
What a wonderful half term it has been for Class One! We’ve loved settling into our new class, discovering lots of new things and developing our skills.
Class 1 Aut 1 25-26
This half term, we have enjoyed lots of interesting topics.
In Geography, we have learned about where we live, looking at our country, city and our town. We also looked at the weather where we live, learning all about weather symbols and what weather is typical in the UK. We compared the weather in the UK with weather in countries nearer to the equator, like Saudia Arabia. We compared weather reports from different countries. The children loved looking at the different countries where they have family and what the weather is like there!
In Science, we have begun exploring animals including humans. This half term, we have focused on humans: we’ve identified body parts, identified organs, looked at what body parts are used for and explored human senses and what they help us to do. We also learned how to keep our bodies healthy, through exercise, rest and healthy foods.
This half term, we loved our Art topic: spirals! The children discovered spirals in the natural environment, looking at objects like snail shells, seashells and even the solar system! The children created their own spirals using chalk outside, made compasses to make circles in their sketchbooks, created spiral snails and even made spiral ghosts for spooky season!
Our reading is going from strength to strength and all of the children are learning lots more letters and sounds, reading words and even reading entire books! We have been focusing on sentences in our writing lessons, using capital letters and full stops. We have loved our books, ‘Oi Frog’ (which has lots of rhyming words), I Like Bees, I Don’t Like Honey (which we used to write about ourselves), Little Red Riding Hood and Which Nose for Witch? (which we used to begin to use adjectives).
In Maths, the children have been learning all about numbers and their value. We have been learning to find one less, one more and numbers that are equal, all about odd and even numbers, we’ve learned to use a number line and we have also learned to use lots of new equipment, including Rekenreks, tens frames and bundling sticks.
