Summer Stories & Sports

In English, we enjoyed reading The Lonely Beast, a story that inspired us to think carefully about friendship, kindness and seeing beyond first impressions. Using the book as our inspiration, we wrote diary entries from the Lonely Beast's point of view. The children worked hard to write thoughtfully, imagining how the Beast might have been feeling throughout his adventure.

We've also loved making the most of the warmer weather by spending lots of time in our forest area. Whether we were playing team games, building friendships or simply enjoying being active outdoors, it has been wonderful to see the children playing so imaginatively together.

This half term also included Mrs Lewis' Art Week, where creativity was on full display. The children produced some beautiful artwork and embraced every opportunity to experiment with different ideas and techniques. It was lovely to celebrate their imagination, with many children proudly making creativity medals for their fantastic efforts.

In Maths, the children have continued to work incredibly hard as they prepared for the move into Year 3. They have shown great determination, tackling new challenges with growing confidence and resilience. We were also delighted to share the fantastic learning taking place at home through our maths scrapbooks. It was wonderful to see the practical activities, games and investigations that families completed together, and the children thoroughly enjoyed sharing their achievements with the class.

Sports Day was another highlight of the half term. Every child gave their very best, working hard to earn points for their house teams while showing excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. We were incredibly proud of the way the children encouraged one another, celebrated each other's successes and demonstrated such positive attitudes from start to finish.

As the end of Year 2 approaches, we've also been practising the routines, independence and good learning habits that will help us make a successful transition into Year 3. The children have shown just how much they have grown—not only in their learning but also in their confidence, resilience and kindness towards one another.

It has been a wonderful year, and we couldn't be prouder of everything the children have achieved. We hope everyone enjoys a well-earned, restful summer break, and we look forward to hearing about all of the exciting adventures waiting for them before they begin Year 3 in September!
