Delightful Decimals
In maths this term, we have been using our place value knowledge to help us compare and order numbers including tenths, hundredths and even thousandths! We can tell you that 53.245 is greater than 53.235 and can use correct mathematical language to explain why to our classmates. We have loved using our knowledge of decimals and competing as a class in Place Value UNO, which now includes three more columns since we first started to play this back in September! Well done to Brody, Kainat and Hugo for their excellent use of mathematical language when describing decimal comparisons this term. We can’t wait to dive more into the delightful world of decimals even more next term!
Brilliant Biomes
This term in writing, we have been researching the fascinating world of biomes, using our knowledge from geography lessons to support our writing. We have used technical vocabulary such as flora, fauna, environment and adaptations to provide the reader with an in-depth explanation about a range of biomes. Ella and Frankie’s use of subject specific vocabulary have really enabled the reader to create a clear picture of each biome and the features within them. We have worked really hard on our use of parenthesis to provide extra detail and definitions of technical vocabulary for the reader. An example of work includes, ‘According to research, a biome is a particular part of the planet with four similar features, which includes plants (flora), animals (fauna), climate and landscape.’
Class 5: The Documentary
During science week this year, we create a documentary alongside our engineering design to support bird feeding within our forest. We used our knowledge from a range of subjects, including science (pulley mechanisms), geography (the world of biomes), and design and technology (structural design), to create a collaborative design that would support bird feeding within our forest biome. We LOVED creating a documentary to submit alongside our design and became fully submerged into our documentarian roles. Well done Class 5!
