Sunny Summer!
Exciting Multiplication
This term in maths, we have been focusing upon fractions, using our super multiplication fact recall knowledge to help us convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions. We can tell you that a mixed number includes both a whole number and a fractional part, and an improper fraction is when the numerator is greater than the denominator. We have used this knowledge to help us multiply fractions by a whole number and can use mathematical language within both our verbal and written explanations. Well done to Jayden and Heather for considering their use of mathematical language within their explanations. We can’t wait to continue using our multiplication facts throughout Year 6!
Brilliant Biographies
In writing this term, we have been looking at biographical accounts of significant historical figures. We have worked hard to place individual historical events into chronological order and have used a wide range of time adverbials to signpost the reader to specific time frames. We have written a biographical entry for Walter Tull, related to our class book this term. We have used a variety of conjunctive adverbs to link our ideas together and have been focusing on our use of subordinating conjunctions and clauses to provide more detail for the reader. Amina and Fareshta’s biographical account of Walter Tull was super. Additionally, Naser’s use of time adverbials was brilliant and really provides the reader with a clear timeline of events.
Musical Marvel
In music this term, we have focused on musical notation and have used boom whackers to practice. We have played the boom whackers individually, in groups and as a whole class to a range of musical genres including pop, hip-hop and rock. Our class favourite was the bop ‘Family Madrigal’ from Encanto. We hit every single note!
Class 5: The Amazon. Live Premiere coming July 2025
This term in geography, we have been focusing upon life within Brazil and the Amazon Rainforest. We have used our research skills to establish key facts about Brazil, the Amazon Rainforest and the Amazon River. We know that the Amazon River is the second longest river on Earth after the Nile in Africa and that the source of the river is in the Andes Mountain range in Peru. We can tell you that the river flows northwards through Brazil before taking water into the Atlantic Ocean. We have loved using our earlier rivers knowledge to help us throughout this topic and have used a wide range of technical vocabulary including source, mouth and upper course, which we learned in y4. We have even visited the Amazon River-virtually! We have absolutely loved becoming geographical researchers and producing a documentary style presentation about our findings. It felt like we were in the rainforest and the detail provided meant that we could all create visual representations of the fauna and flora in our mind. Super work Class 5!
